How to Pick Your Ideal Beijing Day Tour
-
Optimal Solution to the Must-sees:
The Forbidden City and the Great Wall are what you mustn’t miss when in Beijing. With our most classic mini group or private itinerary, you’ll witness the three World Heritage sites - Tiananmen Square, the Forbidden City, and Mutianyu Great Wall - in one day without any rush. -
Classic Choices for the Time Crunch:
If you have a short stay of only 10 hours, consider our Beijing one day tours from airport to Mutianyu Great Wall or a half-day Forbidden City tour. These are possible provided you allow 3 to 4 hours for travel between the airport and the attractions. Our seamless transfer service ensures a worry-free experience. -
For History Buffs:
Freely combine the Forbidden City, Temple of Heaven, Summer Palace, Lama Temple, Imperial Academy, or the Confucian Temple, which will give you insights into architecture, history, life, sacrificial and religious culture, and education of the Chinese royal court. Rest assured that our experienced guides have deep historical knowledge and will not leave you feeling any cultural alienation. -
For Great Wall Aficionados:
We offer many dedicated day tours to Great Wall in different sections, including the most beautiful Mutianyu, the best-preserved Badaling, and the most original Jinshanling. Whether you prefer a day hike, a night trip, a helicopter experience, or hands-on restoration, it’s all available. -
For Nightlife Seekers:
Enrich your evening in Beijing with a 1-hour thrilling acrobatic show, a traditional Chinese intangible cultural heritage, and a food experience in the typical Hutong alleys. Or if you’d rather escape from the hustle and bustle of the city, go to Simatai or Mutianyu Great Wall for a serene night view.
Mini Group or Private Day Tour: Which is Right for You?
Our mini group tours with about 12 people are ideal for those who expect a more budget-friendly travel. Still, you can enjoy our all-inclusive service, including ticket fees, a guide’s proper care for each of your guests, and seamless transfers, to visit Beijing’s top attractions like the Forbidden City, Great Wall, Temple of Heaven, Hutong alleys, Lama Temple, and Summer Palace, without any worries.
Our private Beijing day tours not only offer you an exclusive guide and chauffeur-driven car, but also can be customized to your specific needs, such as flexibly adjusting the pick-up and drop-off time and location, visiting order, and scenic spots. Whether you want to visit less-known Great Wall sections like Jinshanling, Simatai, and Huanghuacheng, or explore more secluded Hutong alleys, discover local markets and delicacies, or have a DIY experience of traditional handicrafts, we can tailor a personalized Beijing day trip for you.
What to Know Before You Go
-
Plan Sufficient Time:
Our Beijing day trips generally run from 8:00 to 18:00, lasting 8 to 12 hours, except for half day tours to Forbidden City and night tours of the Great Wall or Hutong food tasting. If you need to travel from and to the airport or train station on the same day, it is recommended that you book flights or trains arriving before 8:00 and leaving after 21:00 to ensure sufficient tour time, or consider an overnight stay. We can also customize your itinerary according to your schedule.
FYI:
1. It is about 1.5 hours’ drive from Beijing Daxing International Airport to downtown, and about 2.5 hours to major Great Wall sections such as Mutianyu or Badaling.
2. It takes about 1 hour to drive from the Beijing Capital International Airport to downtown and about 1.5 hours to get to the Great Wall.
3. Beijing West Railway Station is about 1 hour's drive to downtown and about 2 hours to the Great Wall. -
Make Advanced Reservations:
Tickets for popular attractions like the Forbidden City and the National Museum require booking 7 days in advance and are extremely competitive. Booking a guided tour with us more than 8 days in advance will maximize your chances of securing a reservation. For independent travelers, if you fail to get tickets, you can combine the Temple of Heaven or the Summer Palace with a Hutong alleys tour, which is also a classic option for a one-day sightseeing. -
Avoid Monday Closures:
Almost all museums and art galleries, such as the Forbidden City, the National Museum, and the Capital Museum, will be closed on Mondays. Some of the halls in the Summer Palace and the Temple of Heaven will also not open on Mondays, when you can only visit the gardens or courtyards. Therefore, please plan your itinerary properly. -
Expect Crowd & Queues:
Beijing is packed with tourists, especially during holidays and the peak season from April to October. In particular, it is recommended that you avoid the National Day holiday from October 1st to 7th and the summer vacation of July and August, when major attractions are overcrowded, traffic congestion is severe, tickets are hard to come by, and hotel prices are high. Even during the off-season from November to March, popular sights still require patience.
There are very strict security checks at Tiananmen Square, and you generally need to queue for at least half an hour on weekdays in the off-season and up to 1-2 hours on weekends or holidays. If you can get up early and arrive before 8:00 am, the queuing time will be greatly shortened. Navigating the entry to the Forbidden City is also tricky, requiring at least half an hour during the peak season, plus an additional 1-1.5 hours if you haven’t secured a reservation. Therefore, schedule your visit time wisely, or book our guided tours featuring online reservation and a group ticket channel to save you as much time as possible.
